According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), their report has suggested that many workers (in the region of 3,945 people) had fatalities in the year 2012. Out of which 19.6% workers were in the construction industry. At construction sites, there are many causes of accident such as falling down, struck by an object, use of heavy machines etc. If you’re in the construction industry, then these are the common causes of accident you should know about.

  1. Falls – An individual failing to look around or taking one wrong step can lead to falling down towards the ground. Falling hazard is regarded to be one of the most common type of injury seen on stairwells having no guardrails.
  2. Struck by Object –In the year 2012, around 78construction workers were struck by objects that resulted in death. These deaths could have been avoided if proper training was offered to the workers along with the use of proper equipment.
  3. Electrocutions – Around 66 workers died due to electrocution in the year 2012. Electrocution happens when a person or equipment comes in contact with power lines. This type of accident can happen to workers who are unaware of presence of energized power sources.
  4. Machinery Accidents – Construction industry involves the use of heavy machinery such as bulldozers, excavators etc. Inadequate or lack of training on the use of heavy equipment can lead to major accidents at the construction site. Power tools and large equipment are the major reasons behind accident by machines to workers.
