The sun is up and you’re driving down Interstate 95 with the radio into a soft rock station. All of a sudden you’re sirens in the distance and you try to make out where it’s coming from.

Your eyes dart in the opposite side of the divider and then you notice the flashing blue and red of police lights coming up from the back really quickly. You realize you’re driving on the left corner of a two-lane stretch of Interstate 95. So you choose to sign right and then carefully switch over to the proper lane.

This is something which occurs on a daily basis in many areas of America and most probably, the rest of the world also. Aside from the loud sound of the police sirens, the police light bars are the ideal way to warn other vehicles on the street a police cruiser is on its way.

For most people, it’s hard to accurately pinpoint when a police car is on its way through sound alone, and that’s the reason why police lights are essential. Seeing the flashing lights is a far more troubling sign for you to make way than simply using the siren alone.

Ambulances and other cars using emergency vehicle lights also use them to get where they should be. And much like for police cars ambulances do use sirens but in a town, which by its very nature has lots of noise pollution, they want lights to make people get out of the way in a rush.
