To ensure the accuracy in LASIK surgery, the treatment is divided into three stages:
Pre Operative Stage: In this stage, the patient is not allowed to wear any kind of contact lenses for a period of about 10 days. The patient’s eye undergoes thorough checking and examination to find out if there is any kind of abnormality in the shape of the cornea. Depending upon the results, the doctor figures out the amount & portion of tissue that needs to be removed.
Operation: During the operation, the position of eye is tracked by a computer. In order to make sure that the patient does not feel any pain during the process, he is given anesthesia. The upper flap of cornea is cut and folded in order to expose the middle section of the cornea. The cornea is then reshaped using laser. The upper flap is then folded back by using a soft instrument.
Post Operative Stage: Post the surgery, the eye checkup is done to ensure that the surgery was successful. Anesthetic pill is given to the patient so that he can sleep and give rest to the eyes. To avoid any side effects or complications, the patient must take the eyes drops and pills as prescribed by the doctor.
